Kaziranga National Park — Where Rhinos Reign
Kaziranga National Park is one of India's most iconic wildlife destinations, located in the districts of Golaghat and Nagaon, Assam. Established as a National Park in 1974 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, it spans 1,030 sq km of Brahmaputra floodplain.
Kaziranga is globally celebrated as the home of two-thirds of the world's Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros — over 2,700 individuals. The park also has one of India's highest densities of Bengal tigers and is home to large herds of Asiatic elephants and wild water buffalo.
The landscape includes tall elephant grasslands, tropical moist forests, wetlands, and riverine habitats along the mighty Brahmaputra River — creating a unique ecosystem unmatched anywhere in India.
In Kaziranga, every morning mist reveals a different world. I have guided visitors for 18 years and still feel the thrill when a rhino emerges from the elephant grass just metres away. The Bagori range at dawn is pure magic.

Kaziranga Wildlife Safari
A jeep or elephant safari is how you truly meet Kaziranga. Run by the Assam Forest Department, each drive takes you deep into the grasslands and wetlands with a trained guide — close enough to hear rhinos breathing in the morning mist.
The park's 1,030 sq km is divided into 4 ranges, each offering a distinct landscape and wildlife experience. From the rhino-dense Bagori wetlands to the birding paradise of Agoratoli — no two safaris are ever the same.
A Day on Safari
A knock on the lodge door, a flask of Assam tea. The Brahmaputra fog hangs low as you layer up for the morning ride.
Permits checked at Kohora gate. The tall elephant grass parts as the gypsy rolls in — alarm calls of hog deer echo ahead.
Fresh rhino tracks on the muddy trail. Your guide cuts the engine. Through the mist, a massive one-horned silhouette appears barely ten metres away.
Cameras full, hearts fuller. Warm luchi and dal over stories of the morning sighting before the elephant safari begins.
